Learners attend leadership programme in US

The US embassy has sent four students and their teacher mentor from Ghanzi Senior Secondary School to participate in the Pan African Youth Leadership programme in the US.
A news release from the embassy states that US Ambassador, Mr Earl Miller led a warm sendoff for four students at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport on Friday.
They are Quinton Matlhophelo, Gagomosiame Kekailwe, Kennedy Kapii, Onthusitse Kwarefo, and Ms Othusitse Sehube (chaperone). Their programme will take place at Chicago, Illinois.
The press release says Ambassador Miller stressed the embassy’s support for international education and exchange between Botswana and the US.
The Ministry of Basic Education deputy permanent secretary, Ms Helen Chilisa encouraged the students to be good ambassadors for Botswana and to create strong networks with other African youth leaders.
The US Department of State’s Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Programme is a dynamic youth leadership programme that brings together students from across Africa with adult mentors for a three week US - based training and cultural exchange.
The release states that the programme strengthens the students’ understanding of civic rights and responsibilities, respect for diversity, and the importance of community engagement.ENDS
