Chanoga embarks on development

10 Jul 2017

Chanoga community has signed an agreement with Lempehu Investment Company to construct permanent structures at their plot along the Maun/Francistown to be eventually used as a guest house.

The plot was used during Poverty Eradication Pitso in 2013 and the government allocated it to the community after the village leader, Kgosi Oateng Setlhodi requested it with a view to embark on sustainable projects which are aimed towards uplifting the living standards of the needy.

Currently, construction is ongoing and Kgosi Setlhodi revealed in an interview that they had partnered with the company which had been awarded the tender to reseal and patch potholes from Matshwane junction to Makalamabedi Bridge along Maun/Francistown road.

He explained that the owner of the company approached village leadership as he was in need of accommodation for his staff hence an agreement to allow him to build houses at the plot and after completion, the facilities would be handed over to the community for future use.

The project is expected to take 10 months and Kgosi Setlhodi noted that they had long wanted to develop the plot but failed because of financial constraints adding that their aim was to establish a multi-purpose recreational facility.

“Our dream has been achieved as the multi-purpose recreational facility project was our priority in submission of requests for the constituency funding. We are going to use the structures as a guest house,” he said.

Kgosi Setlhodi further explained that the infrastructure comprised of 15 rooms of which five were executive rooms, an office with a conference room, store room, a laboratory for soil testing and ablutions.

After the handing over of the facilities, he said they intended to acquire a licence for the guest house adding that would address shortage of accommodation which had been a problem for to public servants.

Furthermore, he said they would utilise the constituency funding on the remaining part of the project to ensure a fully-fledged multi-purpose recreational facility where people could come for leisure.

He said they intended to open a tourism information corner where tourists could have access to information about tourism facilities and activities.

Kgosi Setlhodi said the village had a lot to offer in terms of history, culture and tourism adding that they prided themselves with the old clinic buildings along the river bank which were some of the heritage sites in Chanoga.

Other activities to take place at the facility include, jumping castle for children, all types of games such as snooker, darts, horse riding, picnics and boat cruise.

The project is expected to be run by the Village Development Committee in collaboration with the trust and kgosi is optimistic that it would change the image of the village and bring better life to the communities as it would create more job opportunities. ENDS
