15 schools computer labs functional

Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraela Goya has told Parliament that 15 out of 755 primary schools primary schools nationwide have built functional computer laboratories.Mr Goya, who is also Member of Parliament for Palapye, was responding to a question posed by Selebi Phikwe West Member of Parliament, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse.
Mr Goya said a total of 191 schools in Mascom 3G areas are connected to the Internet.He said out of the 191, 76 schools had access to Internet because devices were available.He further said the remaining 115 were connected, but were still awaiting gadgets for learners, adding that the tender process for the purchase of the gadgets had started.
It is therefore expected that the gadgets will be delivered by December.He also mentioned that computer studies courses were not offered at primary school level.Mr Goya said however computer literacy was included in primary school syllabus for the purpose of developing learner skills.
With the aid of Microsoft, Mr Goya said primary school teachers were offered ICT basic course for non-computer literate teachers and ICT integration in teaching and learning. ENDS
