Bad behaviour irks patients

25 Jun 2013

Bobirwa District Health Management Team official, Dr George Rubanga has admitted to Mabolwe residents that some of the health ministry staff display bad attitudes towards patients.

Dr Rubanga was responding to some health issues in the village during a kgotla meeting addressed by area member of parliament Mr Shaw Kgathi on June 21.

"It is against this background that DHMT in the area has embarked on a public relations workshop with the health staff on how to relate well with clients because they were receiving a lot of complaints concerning the unacceptable behaviour of workers."

Concerning Mablowe Health Post, he said the facility has one registered nurse and the other one will be posted soon after major transfers at the ministry are complete.

He said the health institution in Bobirwa was faced with a transport shortage and Mabolwe was not spared as the ambulance was at CTO for service and was assisted from Bobonong and Semolale.

Dr Rubanga said DHMT was supposed to have 40 vehicles and only 12 were on the road while some having been boarded or awaiting service.

On electrification of the health post he said Department of Engineering and Building Services has made an assessment and was hopeful the facility will have electricity in a short period of time.

Concerning drug availability in the area he said it was at 85 lower than the 95 percent target was because Central Medical Stores was faced with transport challenges to supply drugs to hospitals.

He said DHMT has recorded complaints from patients on referrals to Nyangabwe that they were not attended by specialists but rather by doctors and that to rectify the situation referrals will be done to Selibe Phikwe which is expecting to have a surgeon and a gynaecologist soon.

Dr Rubanga said the Anti Retrovial clinic will be rolled to the remaining six  health post in Bobirwa by the end of the year.

24 facilities currently roll the ARV and he said upon completion of the rollout patients will be attended with indiscriminately.

This will change attendance on IDCC and patients will be attended the same place and this will do away with stigma. ENDS
