06 Jul 2017

Commissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe says Molepolole is the leading village with the highest crime rate in the country.

Officially handing over a P90 000 four-bedroomed house donated by police officers under the Transport and Telecommunications Branch (TTB) to Ms Mantsha Tshegofatso, a mother of nine, Mr Makgobe emphasised the need for stakeholders to collaborate and strategise to uproot crime in the village.

He urged the community to take part in the fight against crime, and to ensure that individuals terrorising the village were brought to book.

He noted that Molepolole police covered a population of around 60 000, and that it required commitment by all to arrest the situation.

He added that the number of police officers responsible for the area could not manage alone.

Another issue of concern to Commissioner Makgophe was social ills prevalent among the youth through indulging in drugs and substance abuse. He challenged parents to play their role in instilling discipline and fighting the use of drugs among the youth.

He said unless Molepolole residents were commitment towards eradicating the social ills, the villagers  would constantly be robbed of their hard earned valuables.

Mr Makgophe highlighted that it was the responsibility of the police not to only concentrate on crime related issues, but to also take part on issues of social responsibility to help improve the social status of needy Batswana.

He expressed gratitude over the police’s support towards the plight of the less privileged, stating that the house was the 45th donated nationwide to assist deserving Batswana.

He explained that the Suping ward project was one of the three houses donated to Molepolole policing area.

Meanwhile, Molepolole Administrative Authority senior assistant council secretary, Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane expressed gratitude over the support they got towards helping the needy members of the community.

He applauded the Molepolole Sub Land Board for the support they rendered in helping towards land acquisition for such projects.

Mr Kgabanyane urged Ms Tshegofatso to ensure that the house was taken care of for it to serve the purpose it was intended for.

He also challenged good samaritans to come forth and complement what the branch staff had started by providing furniture and other required items.

The director of TTB, Ms Maluti Segola  said she was grateful for the support accorded her staff towards the endeavour, adding that the dream to improve Ms Tshegofatso’s home was realised through individual commitment.

Ms Tshegofatso also received grocery, bedding and a bed as part of the donation. She was also promised that her house would be installed with solar power electrification. ENDS
