Water treatment system to be handed over
04 Jul 2017
Botswana Innovation Hub, through its Clean Tech Centre, is to hand over the Zoroga water treatment system to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) for operation and maintenance.
A joint media release from Botswana Innovation Hub and WUC says the two parties have been working on a pilot project that seeks to bring saline water to drinkable quality levels in Zoroga located in the Nata-Gweta area.
It further states that the dual water treatment system is one of the innovations that have a potential of positive national impact given that the country experiences high water stress and incidents of salinity of underground water reserves.
“Clean Tech Centre worked with the Embassy of Israel to identify key strengths in clean technologies from Israel which can lead to initiatives to forge partnerships in water and energy related technologies that best suit the local environment,” reads the release.
The release also says Botswana Innovation Hub collaborated with the ODIS Group, an Israeli water treatment technology company and WUC to pilot a dual water treatment unit in Zoroga.
“The partnership also seeks to work with local research and water quality organisations to better their products locally.
The introduction, testing and further development of the technology can be used as a basis for design and implementation of local water treatment/purification centres in rural areas,” read the release.
The Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Alfred Madigele is set to officiate at the handover ceremony. ENDS
