Dimoraro Maronthotho sets Rhuu apart

04 Jul 2017

Dimoraro Maronthotho, a traditional music album released last year has elevated Rhuu Modise to stardom.

The Oodi-born artist said even though he had been in the music industry for 12 years, it was this particular album that gave him recognition.

In an interview, Rhuu as he is affectionately known said producing an album came with a lot of sacrifice and commitment.

He said he was blessed to have been raised in a Christian family, which accorded him the opportunity to sing at church, something, which helped develop his talent.

It was at church that he realised his talent as he loved to sing and promised himself to one day be a recording artist.

“After realising my potential I continued to produce albums and was happy that I realised my dream,” he stated.

Rhuu said his first three albums were gospel, Boitshwarelo jwa Modimo released in 2005, Jeso ke sedi la dichaba released in 2010 and Oh Mohau wa Modimo released in 2013.

He said through his musical journey, he came to realise that Batswana love traditional music more than gospel; hence he decided to try his hand at gospel and released, A re bineng Setso in 2014 and the album did well.

Rhuu said he never looked back as he worked hard to make sure he did his best in the traditional genre.

When asked about his rich grasp of Setswana, Rhuu said he was raised by his grandfather, who was also a traditional doctor and that was where he learnt the language.

“I spent a lot of time with him and because he knew the language so well and was a culturist, I learnt a great deal from him,” he quipped.

He said in 2016 he released Dimoraro Maronthotho, which had received a lot of airplay especially the title song.

Rhuu added that the song was made after observing that sometimes people are afraid of taking action for fear of evil that may befall them.

He said he was inspired by these turn of events to write something about the matter, Dimoraro maronthotho.  His latest offering released this year called Bammethela Calvary is also a traditional album and said though he was into traditional music he always infused gospel in his albums because everyone needed God in their lives.
