Hukuntsi Sub-district Council’s poverty eradication beneficiaries from Hukuntsi, Lekgwabe, Kang, Hunhukwe and Inalegolo graduated from Textile and Clothing Institute of Botswana which is a vocational institution that provide certificate courses that aim to empower candidates with the knowledge and skills required for them to thrive in the textile and clothing industry.
For his part, Mr Thabo Maswabi-Linga who is a home economics officer at Hukuntsi Sub-district Council said training started from June 5-30.
He further said it was a re-training exercise which was done because the beneficiaries needed upgrading of their skills.
Mr Maswabi-Linga noted that seven of the beneficiaries supplied school uniforms in their respective areas.
He explained that without the right skills, beneficiaries could not be productive. Mr Maswabi-Linga noted that the reason behind re-training beneficiaries was to help them grow, fend for themselves and create employment.
“We want beneficiaries to diversify products which are clothing related and we also want to bring them back for training in order to learn embroidery skills,” he said.
For his part, one of the beneficiaries, Ms Olopeng Mokope who hails from Hukuntsi said she was registered for Poverty Eradication Programme in 2012 and she was assisted with machinery in 2015 and this year, she was given cloth to start her business.
For her part, Ms Kgalatswe Motswamadikwe from Inalegolo said she learnt sewing at Kang BOCODOL and the training took only two weeks.
She noted that she has three other partners and they operated at Village Development Committee (VDC) premises and they make school uniforms for students.
She highlighted that she was happy with the training and wishes to continue learning in order to improve her skills. ENDS
