Member of Parliament for Serowe South, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has urged UCCSA Denominational Women’s Fellowship (DWF) to mirror if they were doing what God expected them to do.
The Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation said this officially opening the International Women’s Denominational conference in Serowe recently.
The women’s fellowship conference attracted women from Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa, while Mozambique failed to make it.
The guest speaker said such gatherings were more than necessary, as the biggest devil today were pride, selfishness and inhuman practices within the church.
She said the church had not separated itself from impurities and corruption hence a lot of people had lost faith, trust and hope in the Lordship of Jesus.
Dr Venson-Moitoi said their role as women in the church, was to give hope and healing to families, work places, communities and nations, so that they may acknowledge and appreciate the source of their strength and conviction.
She said women, as entrusted by God to bring life to earth and guide, had to do right.
“Teach and bring to church what God wants to see. This is time for reflection,” she stated.
The MP said the conference’s theme, 'Christ Alone, That Hope and Healing are Found' challenged her to do some thorough analysis especially when the globe was faced with so many catastrophes and calamities.
She said the church had turned into a place of trade and if people could reconcile with God, they could find hope and healing.
Dr Venson-Moitoi said worshipping the desires of other people was a waste of time and cautioned them not to miss heaven because of insignificant things.
The Serowe South MP said she believed they came from far to gather in Serowe for a purpose and encouraged them to ensure that their efforts were not in vain.
She said children today were sophisticated and had to deal with challenges such as same sex marriages and other rights that they never had to confront in churches.
Dr Venson-Moitoi said they should pray and be strengthened to be able to confront this.
DWF chairperson, Ms Molebi Morolong said the attendance was pleasing, adding that since they would be celebrating 50 years, members were allowed to exceed their usual 100 member’s quota.
She said DWF objective was to broker unity and diversity, to help women grow spiritually and exercise best practices in how to mission in the house of God.
The chairperson said as Christians they were to ensure that they do not preach the word only but lived it by assisting the communities they served.
“We are encouraged that we managed to donate P10 000 to SOS today, this is in line with the word of God. Our desire is to do more for those in need,” stressed Ms Morolong.
She said they would celebrate the London Missionary Society (LMS) American Board (ABM), and Congregational Union of Southern Africa’s (CUSA) unity which resulted in UCCSA in Durban on October 3.
The minister contributed P2 000 to SOS Serowe. ENDS
