Team Botswana readies for Commonwealth Youth Games

Nassau, the capital city of Bahamas is gearing up to host young athletes from seventy Commonwealth countries and territories during the sixth edition of the sport carnival that is held every four years.

A press release from Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) states that Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games will be the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted by the country.

It state that games will be held from July 18-23 and up to 1300 athletes aged between 14 and 18 will compete in a total of nine sports.

The release further states that with just under a month remaining, the Commonwealth Games Association of Botswana has assembled a strong team of 14 from four sporting codes to represent the country.

It also noted that CYG is an important stepping stone for these athletes who have their eyes on competitions such as Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games.

Furthermore, athletes were selected based on merit and will be announced to the public in the coming days.

It says Team Botswana will be led by former Commonwealth Games medallist, Olympian and CGA Botswana Board Member, Lechedzani Luza as the chef de Mission. ENDS
