Double Action eyes silverware
09 Jan 2013
As the AT& T Monnakgotla women’s football league resumes this weekend, Double Action coach, Agreement Podi is confident that his team will claim the silverware for the third consecutive season.
Defending champions, Double Action are seating at the summit of the log with 42 points with Township Rollers on the second spot with 35 points.
The weekend match against the Untouchables will wrap up the first leg of the season for Double Action having played 15 games so far.
Podi said his team will fight with everything to retain the title which he said will be a big achievement for them.
He said the team has been training since the beginning of the year. However, he said they are still rusty from the long break.
Podi indicated that the team does not have any setbacks as there are no injuries on camp.
“We haven’t lost any players and we are expecting to sign a good striker and a new goalkeeper,” he noted.
He said since the team resumed training, they have intensified training so that the girls can gain form in preparation for the weekend fixture.
The coach said he is impressed with the running of the league this season, adding that late last year they experienced challenges with referees not turning up for games due to their allowance grievances.
Podi said he wishes the league sponsor could be more visible at games so that people could recognise that it is a big league.
Furthermore, he said Double Action supporters should expect fireworks as his team is going for the kill. ENDS
