Pandamatenga Farms developments delayed

28 Jun 2017

Construction of road networks and drainage systems for Pandamatenga Farms has been delayed due to challenges in handling the wet excavated material and muddy sub-surface conditions.

Addressing the Chobe District Council full session on Tuesday, council chairperson, Councillor Paul Chabaesele said these challenges required urgent intervention by the district leadership.

He said as a result of the delays, Pandamatenga road network and drainage project was four months behind schedule after commencing in August 2016 while its completion date was set for August next year.

“Overall progress stood at 22 per cent against the planned 39 per cent,” Cllr Chabaesele said.

He encouraged collaboration and coordination of projects and programmes in order to provide unsurpassed service to clients.

On a positive note, he said Chobe National Park had received an award as the Best Safari destination, scooping first overall position in Africa.

“This depicts the district’s best practice in management of parks and that our conservation efforts are recognised internationally,” he said.

Another notable development on the environmental front is the half a million Pula donation towards a boat jetty by the Western tour operators at Ihaha.

The proposed jetty would be constructed and handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) for management.

Construction works were currently on-going and commenced in May and the donation will contribute towards the decongestion of the river front. ENDS
