Lack of office equipment, poor Internet connectivity, deviant student behaviour, poor staff morale and lack of transport are among issues affecting student results at Seepapitso Senior Secondary School.
Briefing the MP for Kanye North, Mr Patrick Ralotsia who had visited the school recently, the deputy school head at Seepapitso, Ms Segakweng Qobo said they were working towards resolving the issues as a means of creating a better school for all.
Mr Ralotsia, who is also the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, said his desire was to see his former school return to its glory days as a “beacon of academic excellence and good behaviour in the district and the country”,
Addressing educators, parents and representatives of the Student Representative Council, Mr Ralotsia said “as a former student, I am concerned about the recent downward trend in the results obtained at the Form V examinations by our school. Thus my visit to this institution today is one of a pastoral nature, and as such I want to hear from students, teachers and parents the possible causes of the poor academic results we are attaining at the school and assist where possible.”
In her overview of the school, Ms Qobo said they had identified their weaknesses which hindered good academic results.
Ms Qobo assured the area MP that they would work towards resolving the issues as a means of creating a better school for all.
Addressing operational concerns revealed by the deputy school head, Kanye Sub-region chief education officer, Mr Myson Mbuso said issues of staff accommodation were being examined, and that he was confident an amicable solution would be found.
He said the issue of poor staff morale was worrisome in his region and applauded MP Ralotsia for taking time to visit and encourage both students and educators to perform better.
Mr Ralotsia applauded teachers and students for coming up with a new school motto which reads: A better Seepapitso starts with me
Mr Ralotsia said the motto should be the driving force in reenergising the school and returning it back to its glory days which were synonymous with academic excellence, sporting success and virtuous behaviour in students. ENDS
