The annual Maitisong outdoor festival, which is usually hosted in various parts of Gaborone was not so spirited this time around when it was staged in Old Naledi.

As various artists exchanged the stage and dished out different music genres, the mood changed for the better, particularly that the attendance slightly increased.

Usually this festival is hyped by live bands but there was none this time because of tight logistics and short preparations. The festival is usually hosted in April but according to Maitisong director, Gao Lemmenyane they had to wait for funds to be released first as they could not go on with preparations without funds. 

The hardworking Lemmenyane however said he was not disappointed with the attendance though there were no so called “big artists” who were crowd pullers. He was however optimistic that next year they would be able to market the event well in time and attract a big audience.

Though various artists performed to their best, Tebbie who sings gospel did not disappoint as usual and the same extended to groups such as Heroes, Vasco and Flexible Musica, Khayas, Mogwana Traditional Group, Moanelwa Mogolo, Geevan Keobeilwe aka Materase.    

Though there was calm and happiness as the music was dished to the music hungry residents, who were recently provided with up to date public infrastructure such as roads, sewerage line, water, electricity and a children’s park, a certain man nearly ruined the day as he based on a child with his fast sprinting motor vehicle.

The music lover temporarily left the music centre and converged around the motor vehicle and its owner who had a lone passenger with one aim; to beat and knock sense into their heads.

Police later came to rescue the situation by taking both men to the police station thus saving the day while the boy victim was taken to the local clinic and was later seen dancing once more with his friends.

Some residents have however expressed their love for the festival and have vowed not to miss it but called for people to display orderly behavior during the function which continued to offer them an all day long free music by local artists. ENDS
