Delivery of quality education requires all - BOCODOL official

Botswana College of Open and Distance Learning, regional director, Mr Monty Moswela has called on all basic education stakeholders to contribute in laying a strong foundation in education.
Speaking at the Tonota Sub-region excellence awards on June 23, Mr Moswela called on stakeholders to be resilient in overcoming all impediments of excellence.
He said schools were faced with challenges such as alcohol and drug abuse, satanism and implored the community to instil discipline.
He noted that the delivery of quality education called for cooperation between parents, teachers and students.
Mr Moswela further said the quality and relevance of education was important for the development of the nation and the production of a sustainable workforce.
He highlighted the importance of quality management in education for the sector to assist in the diversification of the country’s economy.
Mr Moswela said with quality education the country could be assured of improved health and increased life expectancy for the citizens.
He encouraged teachers to prepare learners to be accountable for their life long planning and parents to understand that education was a basic human right.
Mr Moswela applauded the sub region for recognising and warding excellence.
Tonota Sub-region deputy council chairperson, Mr Lampy Ngake implored the students to resist peer pressure and continue excelling in their studies.
Tonota Sub-region chief education officer, Ms Milidzani Nduna said the awards recognised excellence both in and out of the classroom.
She challenged schools to continue excelling despite the limited resources and called for their commitment in collaborating for effectiveness.
Chamabona school head, Mr Clayton Duiker said the objective of the awards were to motivate teachers, students and non-teaching staff to do more, to recognise good quality performance and to cement good quality performance for now and the future.
Meanwhile, in the best primary school category, Kgosi Sekoko I scooped the first position with 89.58 per cent followed by Tholodi and Rauwe primary schools with 85.29 per cent and 83.17 per cent in the second and the third positions respectively.
The best performing junior secondary school was scooped by Letlhabile with 41.79 per cent followed by Rutwang with 40.3 per cent and Chamabona with 34 per cent.
The most improved primary school was scooped by Natale, while Kgosi Sekoko I came second and Mandunyane got third position.
Thabo Kgano of Madisakwana primary school was the best overall performer in the Primary School Leaving Examinations, while in the Junior Secondary Education results, Thabo Thonkga of Bonwatlou was best performer.
In the Botswana General Certificate of secondary Education, Theophilus Mbedzi was the best overall performer.
The theme of the day was Quality Basic Education: Laying a Foundation For a Knowledge-based Society. ENDS
