Monwane kgosi crtiticises land board
24 Jun 2013
Kgosi Ketlamoreng Masono of Monwane in Letlhakeng Sub-district has expressed concern about Kweneng Land Board's lack of cooperation.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting at Monwane addressed by area MP Liakat Kablay, Kgosi Masono said the landboard had recently allocated their land without any communication or notification to the relevant authorities.
Kgosi Masono was aggravated by the fact that the land allocation was so complex that local ploughing fields and their veterinary kraal were seized. He further expressed great discomfort as he had no proper response to the queries that the villagers were bringing to him seeking a valid explanation for the sudden developments and alterations being made to their living environment.
In the same meeting, the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Ms Gobonamang Maise gave a report of the challenges that the village faced that included the inadequacy of building within the village, saying that the kgotla was in dire need of office space as the kgosi, his helpers, the kgotla police and the court bailiff all needed a place to administer the village activities.
She also added that the school too was in awful need of housing for teachers. She also lamented that every time they request for assistance in terms of infrastructure they are told that such project can be managed and constructed by Ipelegeng.
On the same note the chairperson complained about the absence of electricity mentioning that this was a huge inconvenience as the lack of power is compromising the safety of the residents of Monwane.
She further asserted that this was leading to an increase in the amount of crime incidents in the village as lawbreakers are taking advantage of the current struggle. Ms Maise said over the past year the be Mobile caravan that was pitched in 2012 to help the village with technological developments had been broken into three times.
She requested that at least the village be assisted with solar panels to help the power situation. She added that these solar panels would be of great use even to the health post which also needed to be extended as the population of Monwane was increasing.
Speaking to the issue of the break-ins police officer, Mr Mmoloki Gulubane paid testament to the fact that thieves were taking advantage of the fact that there was no power in the village and that there were no village structures such as ‘Ntebele ke go Lebele’ to protect the villagers and their properties.
“Each and every single resident has to do their part so that our community can be safe and free from crime.”
MP Liakat Kablay assured the residents of Monwane that all the developments they had requested will be attended to only if they fall under the ministries that had been given the financial prowess to carry out such developments.
He then urged the residents of Monwane to continue to participate in the development of their village through the various committees that are available, emphasizing that only they can bring positive change to their residence. ENDS
