UCCSA celebrates decades of existence
26 Jun 2017
The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), Ramotswa branch celebrated 50 years of the church’s existence over the weekend.
As part of the celebrations, the church among others, prayed for social ills and the village leadership at Ramotswa kgotla.
The UCCSA also held a sponsored walk from the church premises in Taung to Ramotswa Kgotla.
Speaking at the sponsored walk, Reverend Gabriel Tsuaneng said the walk was aimed at raising awareness about the role played by the church in the development of the country.
He said the foundations of this country were laid with wisdom from God through the support of the church, in particular the London Missionary Service (LMS), which paved way for UCCSA.
Therefore, Rev. Tsuaneng said it was not surprising that the first, second and third Presidents of this country, were members of UCCSA.
Furthermore, he said the first mayors of Gaborone and Francistown respectively, were pastors from the church.
The church, he said has had a significant influence in the political sphere of the country adding that LMS baptised dikgosi, while UCCSA continued to influence the political sphere of the country.
Hence, he said it was not possible that the church would not speak out when the country’s government neglected its duties.
Nonetheless, he said the church would forever remain apolitical but would never be silent from the affairs of the country.
“Our church has a large stake in the development of this country,“ noted Rev. Tsuaneng.
Another speaker, BOCONGO’s executive director, Mr Botho Seboko stressed the role played by the church in the country.
However, he regretted that the country was losing the moral fabrics, which were instilled by the church.
He noted that crime, alcohol abuse, violence against women and children were some of those that show that the people of this county had moved away from God’s guidance. Mr Seboko said there was need for the society to introspect and return to the foundations, which were laid by the church and founding fathers.
Further, he said there was need to inculcate the good Christian teachings on the young ones, as they were the core of what Botswana would be in the future.
“Almost half of our parents have neglected the role of God is the upbringing of their children,” he added. ENDS
