24 Jun 2013

Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund spokesperson, Mr Thabo Morotsi has implored teachers and learners to continue to perform to the best of their abilities.

Speaking at the victory party for Goo-Tau 2012 Primary School Leaving Examinations, Mr Morotsi said teachers and students should not be discouraged as every situation presented its own challenges.

Mr Morotsi encouraged teachers to bring to the attention of students potential dangers that might derail them from achieving a bright future. He said some primary school going children engaged in drugs, alcohol and sexual activities and these were threats to their future.

He said students should stop vandalism of school property because it might deprive them the meagre resources they needed to successfully complete their studies. He however urged students to shy away from undesirable conduct to uphold the good performance and reputation of their school.

Mr Morotsi said it was for the obvious reasons of development and economic advancement that every parent sent their children to school and this was meant to equip them for a competitive future.

He said the responsibility lies with parents, teachers and students to demonstrate the importance and value of the investment by turning it into reality.

He said this could be achieved through acquisition of knowledge and skills that would mould the learners to contribute positively and robustly to the development of the country.

He said one of government’s core focus for education was to develop the students in mathematics, science and technology for the new global challenges in economic development, hence the ongoing construction and plan for the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) in Palapye.

Mr Morotsi said it is only through a collective and committed involvement of parents, teachers, community and learners that the pillar of “An Educated and Informed Nation” can be achieved.

He encouraged private and parastatal organizations to adopt a school through the adopt –a- school initiative.

He said his company will continue advocating for moral aptitude of learners and do all that they can to assist students to do well in their education.

Mr Morotsi said MVA fund considers itself a part of the broader community of Batswana and therefore has a social obligation to effectively participate in the national development processes in whatever way possible.

Goo-Tau Primary School patron Mr Letsweletse Bottomans gave all the students who passed with A in the 2012 Primary School Leaving Examinations P200 each and those who passed with B and C P100 each.

The Member of Parliament for Tswapong North Mr Prince Maele gave the school P3000 surpassing the 2012 regional target of 40 per cent  AB and 76 per cent ABC pass rates. ENDS
