The Setlalekgosi Family Foundation has donated 150 blankets to children and 60 chairs to the elderly in Mookane.
Speaking on behalf of the family during the donation on June 20, Ms Pinkie Setlalekgosi appealed to people to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. Ms Setlalekgosi said individualism had killed the spirit of Botho and togetherness.
She also encouraged individuals to contribute to the development of their villages saying some people had the tendency to abandon their villages when successful. Ms Setlalekgosi highlighted that she had passion for children and the elderly saying the children were the future leaders while the elderly had shaped their children hence the need to show appreciation and love.
Another member of the family, Mr Thebe Setlalekgosi said the donated chairs would be used by the elderly at the post office adding that they had nowhere to sit when seeking services at the village’s post office.
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso hailed the family for reaffirming a solid and strong partnership between government and the civil society.
“Government cannot single-handedly provide for the needy and the vulnerable and as such involvement of the community is necessary to help improve the lives of the people,” she said.
In order to achieve, Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation, she said people must be in a position to open a window of hope in their communities.
Ms Tshireletso, who is also Mahalapye East MP, also acknowledged the Setlalekgosi family for their continued generosity by buying groceries every month and clothes on quarterly basis for two needy families in Mookane.
Also, she said, the family had previously made a number of donations in Mookane such as 100 chairs, tables to Mookane Junior Secondary School, photocopying machine, trophy to Mookane Primary School, computer to primary school, kgotla and health post, grader to clear the cemetery and a number of donations.
She highlighted that the family was donating to make a difference in the lives of Batswana and urged other Batswana to follow suit. By so doing, she said they would be assisting in developing and assisting other individuals. ENDS
