CAAB relocates operations

18 Jun 2017

The Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), informs the public that upon completion of phase one of the new Kasane International Airport terminal building on June 23, airport operations will be relocated to the new building on June 27.

According to a press release from CAAB, the facility was upgraded after it was noted that passenger flow had increased beyond the capacity of the existing terminal building hence the need to expand.

Kasane has become a popular tourist destination, both regionally and internationally and the facility currently serves Maun and Gaborone through Air Botswana. The new terminal is expected to cater for the growth of the airport and boosts the capacity to handle more international flights, says the release.

It further states that the relocation will pave the way for the completion of phase II of the project which involves the blending and refurbishment of the existing terminal building and other buildings and is planned for completion in November this year.

The release says during phase two of construction, airport operations at the new terminal building will be running partially, allowing continuous installation of services and passenger facilitation requirements.

Furthermore, it states that the partial completion of the Kasane International Airport project, a gateway to one of the country’s pristine tourism regions, continues the government’s drive to provide improved infrastructure to meet passenger demands.

The new terminal building measures 7 800 square metres as compared to the original one which was 1 300 square metres.

It further says CAAB appreciates the patience of stakeholders and the travelling public during the construction of the terminal building, and assures them that it will continue to strive connecting communities. BOPA
