15 Jun 2017

Botswana aspires to be a high income country with export led economy by 2036, says chief researcher at Botswana Public Service College, Dr Thatayamodimo Rammapudi.

Speaking at the Out of School Education and Training Stakeholders Conference for South East Region recently, Dr Rammapudi said this aspiration talks to the need to invest in the use of Science and Technology as these were central to achieving this vision.

He said for the next five years, NDP 11 called for partnerships to be built between different players and government to create strategies and initiatives aimed at addressing issues of poor work ethics and inefficiencies in education and training.

Dr Rammapudi said these partnerships would help develop curricula from the lowest level of education to include the relevant skills aptitudes, adding that Botswana, together with the international world was work ing to ensure the realisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Agenda 2063.

The theme of the conference was ‘Literacy in a Digital World; towards inclusive education in the 21st century.’

Acting chief education officer for South East Region, Mr Moji Rampete said there were some people who were not educated, hence they needed to be trained, re-tooled and be up-graded to make life meaningful to them.

Mr Rampete said there were lot of stakeholders in this venture whho included the University of Botswana, Botswana Public Services College and others.

Mr Rampete noted that all people who trained under this initiative find their lives becoming special as they tended to prosper as life went on as they did not compete and struggle in the deeper business world as they had been well trained.

He said most of the people they trained usually use recyclable material to enhance their lives by producing quality products. ENDS
