Maths Science key to innovation
13 Jun 2017
Seepapitso Senior Secondary School students have been encouraged to take Maths and Science subjects seriously as they were key in innovation.
Speaking at the Maths and Science Fair that the school held over the weekend, chief education officer, Southern region, Mr Myson Mbuso informed students that the world relied on Maths and Science for development and the two drove innovation.
He also encouraged teachers to go an extra mile in supporting students to develop an interest in the subjects because the country’s economy depended on them to produce tomorrow’s leaders armed with innovative ideas.
Mr Mbuso encouraged parents to support both children and teachers since education required the input of all stakeholders.
For their part, Maths and Science teachers applauded government for recognising them as a scarce skill and for sponsoring the event.
Mr Joseph Kgaolo, a parent who attended the show, said the world today depended heavily on technology and encouraged students to work hard for Botswana to keep the pace.
The fair was to enable junior and senior secondary students to share ideas.
In the senior schools category, Lobatse and Seepapitso got position one and two respectively, while Letsopa Secondary School from Lobatse got position one and Ntebogang from Kanye emerged second in the junior secondary schools category.
The winners will compete in the nationals slated for July at the University of Botswana. ENDS
