Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says affirmative action has made a positive impact on peoples’ lives in remote areas.

Ms Tshireletso said this at a kgotla meeting in Mmeya on June 8.

She stated that positive testimonies given by the residents proved that a significant change had been made in their lives.

The assistant minister also implored Mmeya residents to take a lead role in transforming their livelihoods for the better as village facilities continued to improve in their village.

She said facilities availed to them should resonate with their standard of living.

In addition, Ms Tshireletso urged parents to participate and support their children’s education.

Meanwhile, the Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Bafana Dikgopolo complained that teachers at the local primary school were transferred without replacement.

Mr Dikgopolo also decried lack of food at the school.

He requested for a borehole, two public standpipes and the upgrading of a health post to a clinic status.

Kgosi Paulson Keithaganetse raised a concern that public officers declined transfer to Mmeya due to lack of electricity, saying that had led to shortage of teachers at the primary school.

He also requested that Ipelegeng vacancies be increased from 70 to 155.

Kgosi Keithaganetse further complained that there was shortage of water in the village and requested for the gravelling of Mmeya road.

In response, the principal education officer Mr Othusitse Namane said vacancies available at the school were for senior teacher 1, Mathematics and Science, as well as another one for head of department.

Water superintendent, Mr Mmothi Segale said arrangements were made to address the water situation in Mmeya, adding that they would look into the issue of installing two public standpipes.

Roads Department chief technical officer, Mr Unabatsho Matenge said they did not have any plan to gravel Mmeya-Mokubilo road, noting that they could only grade the road.

Commenting, Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe appealed to the public officers to uphold good service standards and have their customers’ best interests at heart. ENDS
