Preparations for women football tournament to be held in Tsabong during the President’s day holidays are ongoing.
Tsabong Regional Football Association (TRFA), regional executive committee chairperson, Tokyo Modise said the tournament would consist of 8 eight games where six teams would be from Tsabong and two would be outside Tsabong which are Mexican Girls and Prisons.
Modise said they were seeking financial assistance from some government departments to sponsor the tournament.
He said securing funds for the event would make it successful as they were willing to award all the teams that took part in the tournament according to their results.
He noted that awards would motivate the players to go an extra mile and it was a way of showing appreciation to their talent and hard working that they would have put in.
Modise said referees were very important in the game of football as the game could not continue without them and they needed to be paid for their work.
He encouraged local teams to take the tournament seriously and they should use it to learn more about football from big teams that would be participating and it would also boost them.
He said he wanted teams to grow in football and he was happy about how women were determined and passionate about it.
He urged private companies and individuals to join hands with them to help grow football in his region
For his part, Mexican Girls chairperson, Oaitse Moeti said the tournament was to empower women, help the girl child through different sport codes such as football, beauty contest and by providing educational and motivational speeches.
He said it would encourage women and girls to dream and it would help them to contribute positively to the growth of the country.
He stressed that the number of girls dropping out of school due to teenage pregnancy was high and a lot of them were involved in use of drugs and alcohol with the influence of adults.
He noted that the tournament would bring girls together in one place where they could share experiences, interact and give advice to each other.
He said people should take sport serious as it could help to promote healthy living and supporting ideals for both teams and players.
Moeti said the event would benefit residents of Tsabong and surrounding areas under the theme “Save the Girl Child”. ENDS
