It is important for public officers to keep their bodies and minds healthy by taking part in fitness activities.
Speaking at the Public Service Fitness Day in Ramotswa on June 9, South East District commissioner, Mr Ian Tema said workers were normally faced with tight schedules from their work, which left them no time to relax their bodies.
He however explained that it was important for public servants to socialise and build team work, which would benefit both the individual and government at large.
He explained that maintaining a healthy body helped fight diseases such as heart disease and high blood pressure, which would normally disturb the wellbeing of a worker.
For her part, Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development South East District coordinator, Ms Tiny Gontse-Tamasiga said the purpose of the day was motivated by the government to keep the workers healthy.
She explained that for government servants to deliver effectively and efficiently, they had to have a driving force of healthy state of mind.
She said government had found it important to be concerned about the workers wellbeing, both physically, emotionally and socially in order for productivity to be realised.
“Government has found it fit to give the public servants an opportune moment to reflect on their health status as a team,” she said.
Ms Gontse-Tamasiga said that the fitness day exposed workers to a lot of activities such as playing different games, and participating in different forms of exercises. ENDS
