Debswana Jwaneng mine on Friday awarded students, teachers and schools from the southern region who excelled in last year’s examinations.

Speaking at the ceremony recently, Kgosi Malope II said the awards would not only motivate students and teachers, but would also go a long way in nurturing different talents amongst young people.

He said such recognition also contributed to the promotion of excellence which would play a part in the development of the country.

“The awards will encourage learning in communities around Jwaneng and motivate game players to aim for better results every year,” he said.

He noted that the awards: The Debswana Diamond Dream Awards, resonated well with the Debswana tagline; mining diamonds, enriching the nation, saying by promoting education excellence, the mine was also enriching the nation.

“To parents, teachers and students, I implore you to seize this opportunity presented to you by Debswana Jwaneng Mine. I hope the recognition bestowed upon you today will encourage you to continue to invest your time and efforts to strive towards greater achievements,” he said.

He called on students to strive to be well-rounded both academically and morally so that they could tackle life situations.

He also advised them that best behaviour had a positive impact on school work and contributed towards the realisation of dreams.

Jwaneng mine general manager, Mr Albert Milton said his organisation saw it appropriate to contribute towards the education sector as it was the mainstay for human resource development.

He said the country had to produce quality human capital which was competitive and could survive in the global village.

“It is no doubt that the world has become a global village, and to survive in this reality, our future leaders should be well equipped. We must produce human capital that will remain competitive and assist the country to achieve its vision,” he said.

He commended students and teachers for placing the region in position three nationally in both primary and junior secondary results last year, adding that the awardees had set a standard worth emulating.
