Mindset change crucial for human development
11 Jun 2017
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has informed Khwee residents that mindset change was critical for human development.
Ms Tshireletso said those benefiting from government programmes should be able to implement projects in such a way that future generations could benefit from them.
Speaking in Khwee, she noted that affirmative action could only be realised if beneficiaries could implement programmes with intentions of upholding their livelihoods.
Ms Tshireletso indicated that each village was given three houses for destitute housing each year, and in 2017 villages were given five houses.
The assistant minister was responding to the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Rodger Tauejele, who had expressed disappointment that affirmative action in Khwee was not implemented.
Mr Tauejele had complained that Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development programme was not supplied as a full package to the beneficiaries.
He also expressed concern that members of the community had since applied for private water connections, but that had not materialised.
He requested a bigger water tank big enough to supply the whole village.
Mr Tauejele decried a large number of temporary teachers at the local primary school, and requested for their absorption into the system on permanent basis.
He also complained that the generator for public officers’ houses had since been due for service last year, but was never attended to, while the other generator operating the borehole had not been serviced since 2014.
He noted that other generators started operating prior to the minister’s visit.
He also complained that officers on transfer took long to relocate.
Mr Tauejele requested for social welfare development and police vehicles, saying students who bunk school were difficult to trace due to lack of transport.
He decried low staff complement at the police station, requesting special constables, especially that stock theft cases were many.
In response, water superintendent, Mr Mmothi Segale said Khwee water tank was big enough to supply its population.
Letlhakane Police Station’s Inspector Albert Foda said a request for special constables had been made to the police commissioner.
Chief ddministration officer from the Department of Education, Ms Maipelo Makepe said temporary teachers’ absorption was dependant on vacant posts, adding that some Khwee teachers had gone for further studies. ENDS
