Southern District commissioner, Mr Mmoloki Raletobana has urged public servants to take part in the national fitness day as it can help improve their health and physical wellbeing.
Mr Raletobana said exercising was essential as it could help reduce stress and keep a healthy mind.
Mr Raletobana was officiating at a fitness day at Matsaakgang Grounds in Kanye on June 9.
Activities of the day included aerobics, netball for both men and women, tug of war, sack race and 100 metres race and other exercises.
The theme of the day was: 'The future is now’.
He urged public servants of all ages and walks of life to improve their fitness so that they could feel happier with themselves and their lives.
He encouraged them to exercise regularly to avoid diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
He said the lack of exercise and poor nutrition resulted in unfit public servants, adding that they should see that they lived a healthy life.
The district commissioner said the day was a sign of growth, adding that public officers should be proud of who they were and the impact they had made in improving the lives of the people they served.
Safety Health Environment (SHE) organisation official, Mr Daniel Letshelaphala said employees should be fit all the time for the country to prosper.
Mr Letshelaphala said common diseases in Botswana such as high blood pressure and sugar diabetes were reduced when people exercised regularly.
