Lack of post offices hinder DailyNews delivery

23 Jun 2013

The Department of Information Services is currently unable to deliver Daily Newspaper on time at some villages where there are no post offices.

Central Region Bureau Chief Ms Masego Pilane said when responding to a concern raised by Malatswai VDC chairperson during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on June 22 that the newspaper is delivered late at Malatswai.

Ms Pilane explained that currently Daily News distribution is done by Botswana Post and as such some villages where there are no post offices have difficulties in accessing the newspaper on time.

She said since Malatswai does not have a post office they collect their mail at Mmashoro post office including Daily News.

Ms Pilane further explained that since Botswana Post delivers mail at Mmashoro on Tuesdays and Thursdays only Daily News for Malatswai piles at the post office awaiting collection.

She said due to transport shortage, Serowe Information Services office will not be able to transport Daily News to Malatswai including some villages in the central region where there are no post offices.

However as an intervention to mitigate the problem, Ms Pilane said an agreement has been made with Kgosi Ketsieditswe Bosigo and the tribal administration office to assist with transport and collect the Daily News from Mmashoro post office.

Ms Pilane also indicated that currently the Daily News print run is 80 000 copies daily excluding weekends and public holidays, which is distributed countrywide.

She therefore appealed to the residents to appreciate that despite the shortage and transport constraints, the Department of Information Services is doing its best to insure quality and timely service delivery.

Mr Tshimologo Agapile has indicated that Daily News is delivered late at Malatswai and as such they are not well informed and even miss out on employment opportunities. ENDS
