My Star turnout disappoints
23 Jun 2013
Popular music talent search show, My Star, has for the second time in less than two months failed to attract fans in Francistown.
The show, which used to attract close to 2 000 supporters, was held on the same weekend with the Toyota Kalahari 1000km Desert Race and the BISA northern zone finals.
This on its own could have conyributed to the low turnout.
The state of affairs could not escape the comments of the organiser of the show, Keabetswe Sesinyi, aka Master Dee who could only say before he could comment on Gaone’s performance.
The My Star Number 9 was the first to be on stage, after the duets, with a song by Celine Dion.
Though the judges in their comments appreciated her performance, one could tell that the sound quality was not up to scratch.
My Star Number 21, the Francistown based Hailey, managed to get a thumbs up even from the hard to please, Sidney ‘DJ Sid’ Baitsile.
The only thing that Kgomotso Tshwenyego, the other judge, could say about Hailey’s performance was “Where have you been throughout the season?”
Meanwhile, My Star Number 1, Tebogo’s performance of various love songs kept the audience on its toes as some waved their hands in the air while some were humming the songs.
As the show was gaining momentum, it was Noah’s turn to set the auditorium ablaze with his more like rap music.
At this point, the audience went crazy, clapping hands and some storming towards the stage but while he seemed to have much command of the audience, there were some who rudely shouted that he must go out. The Francistown based Noah is My Star Number 18.
This did not go well with the show’s organizer who prior to commenting on the performance lashed at some of the ill-mannered audience. Master Dee observed that it was the first time that such behave was noted.
The Mahalapye based Kagiso, My Star Number 8, also impressed his fans and they kept screaming and whistling during his performance.
Still at the show, an upcoming Gaborone based dance group, Flexi Ville, made their mark in the hearts of the Francistowners with their hot performance of some local remix such as “A re bineng khoba ya Batswana”.
The battle for the selection of the best among best of the show continues next week in Gaborone when the Top three contestant will be selected, paving way for the grand finale in July.
My Star winner is expected to walk away with P100 000 prize money and a music scholarship. ENDS
