Beach Volley ball gains ground

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) together with Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) launched beach volleyball coaches course in Gaborone recently
The course is funded by Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and conducted by FIVB course instructor, Athanasios Papageorgiou and is expected to run for five days starting from May 22 to 26.
Speaking at a media briefing, BNOC president, Negroes Kgosietsile said two years back FIVB engaged in an intensive programme of launching beach volleyball in all member states including Botswana.
Kgosietsile said through FIVB support they would assist federation to conduct beach volleyball courses adding that in past years they held a foundation course for development of beach volleyball in Botswana.
He said participants were expected to put up real structures including teams, adding opportunities were available to those who would want to start independent beach volleyball teams from the indoor.
He said expectations were that 2-3 years from now a fully developed structure on indoor and beach volleyball would be in place.
He noted that Botswana Beach Volleyball Men’s team managed to bring home silver medal from Zone VI Club Championships in Namibia adding that the team had potential citing that the team fought South African seasoned teams.
BNOC president advised participants to put what they learnt into practice by passing the knowledge to interested individuals because they will be judged by the results in developing beach volleyball.
Kgosietsile told participants that talent lay at school adding that students were fresh minded and were having a lot of energy advising them to focus on schools. ENDS
