Kopong charity tournament on cards

Kopong second ever annual charity football tournament is to be held on May 27, at Kopong’s No Mathata football grounds.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA, the organiser of the event, Tshepo Ronkwane said four teams; Gaborone United Supporters FC , Botswana Postal Service FC, Lister City of Kopong and the hosts team No Mathata FC of Kopong will play against one another in one day tourney .

Ronkwane said the objective of the tournament was to raise funds to buy winter uniform and toiletry for identified less privileged pupils within Kopong and to provide a platform for players to interact and engage on various issues as well as to encourage players to always keep fit through participating in sport full time, adding that the tournament was made to entertain football fans.

He said they chose to buy winter clothing to both orphans and needy students as a way of restoring their dignity and encouraging them.

While only men are allowed on the pitch, he indicated that women had been roped in as support personnel for participating teams. He said ladies teams would participate next year.

Ronkwane noted that they believed that this tournament presented organisations with a golden opportunity to engage in corporate social responsibility by investing in youth pioneered projects.

“The tournament will be played on a knockout system and the winner will walk away with a trophy, a football kit and gold medals while the runner-ups and the third placed team will get silver and bronze medals respectively and tournament printed t-shirt,” he said.

The tournament is expected go on throughout the day with entertainment from Musician- Newzy,  Dj Gosso Gosso, DJ Ace Tornado  and MC Tebogo Seganka Monnaatsie & MC Cebo-Simon.

The event will be sponsored by YOLI Clothing and Botswana Postal Service in sponsoring men of the matche with Botswana Postal Service merchandise and goodies. BOPA
