AMAD encourages giving back to community

22 May 2017

Artists Making a Difference (AMAD), a non-profit making organisation, formed in May 2016 by a group of aspiring youth is still focused as it is committed to its course of helping underprivileged children.

AMAD is a combination of different artists including models, musicians, dancers and painters who strongly believe in community service and the spirit of giving back to the community they live within.

The organisation will on May 27 celebrate their first anniversary by engaging with Tlokweng Red Cross children in their quest to give back to the community.

AMAD threw SOS children Culture Day celebrations in which they arranged a theme song for the day and held a motivational talk with Nata youth.

In an interview AMAD founder, Roshni Motswakgonnye said they work in conjunction with the Ministry of Basic Education on challenges faced by students both at school level and out of school.

AMAD with the help of Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) targets students, encourages and promotes Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) campaign, urging parents to come forth to consent for students to perform the operation.

She further noted that they have embarked on a school to school tour aimed at educating and entertaining students having visited Matlala and Tlokweng junior secondary schools with the aim of covering 73 schools in South East, Southern and Kweneng districts.

The ‘Re kena sghela to sghela #aspiretoinspirebeforeyouexpire’ tour educates students to abstain from drug use, sex at tender age and blessers.

Motswakgonnye stated that most underperforming students was due to indulgence in drugs, sex and the issue of blessers.

She advised students to wait for the right time in which they could spoil themselves instead of trading their bodies to older working persons for money, adding that youth contribute higher numbers of new HIV infections.

Motswakgonnye cited that Botswana was striken by a high number of school dropouts due to teenage pregnancy and prevalence of drug use among students.

She noted that they normally refer students who were faced with challenges to relevant stakeholders and organisations. ENDS
