Oefile calls for spirit of philanthropy

Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security’s acting deputy permanent secretary, Ms Seadimano Oefile has called on the nation to demonstrate the spirit of philanthropy through assisting the less fortunate.
Speaking at an event to donate toiletry at Molongwa Secondary School in Khakhea on Friday, she said the relationship between the school and their ministry started in October 2016 after they were invited to deliver the keynote address during the school’s prize giving ceremony.
She said they then realised there was need to help the students with toiletry, more especially sanitary pads.
Ms Oefile expressed the need to join hands as a nation geared towards assisting the less privileged thus showing compassion and kindness to take the country to another level.
She said giving does not only release blessings to the giver, but it is also an eye opener to the receiver. She promised to continue assisting the school where possible and when the need arises.
“We contributed as the employees at the ministry to buy toiletry for the students and we are privileged to have landed a helping hand to the needy,” said Ms Oefile.
The school head, Ms Matilda Matlhare acknowledged the gesture rendered by the ministry and highlighted that all 242 girls would have a packet of sanitary pads.
She also indicated that other toiletry like soap, body lotions and toothpaste would be shared amongst both boys and girls. She admitted that the donation would go a long way in assisting the students.
The chief education officer for Jwaneng/ Mabutsane, Mr Abram Molelowamodimo also noted that the gift came in handy to the needy students, and he urged students to rightfully dispose the sanitary pads.
He further encouraged the employees from the ministry to continue sourcing help from other organisations like embassies to help the school and those in need.
“We are expecting good grades from these students and it will not be enough for the ministry of education to assume the responsibility of assisting the students alone. This gesture shows how committed government ministries are to join hands in helping the less privileged,” he added.
Molongwa Secondary School was established in 1991 and officially opened in October 1993. It is a boarding school and it has an enrolment of 474 students with a catchment area of Khakhea, Kutuku, Itholoke, Keng, Khonkhwa and other surrounding villages. ENDS
