Gajok investments donates for eye surgeries
22 May 2017
Mr Chae Soo Kim is a Korean born Motswana who believes he has been blessed, and feels duty bound to return the favour and give back to the community.
Mr Kim, who is also chairperson of the Korean Association, runs Gajog Investments, a company that recently sponsored two patients, Mr Kago Kablay and Mr Tumisang Tshobotho to undergo eye surgery at Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone.
The two patients were in dire need of the operations after one was involved in a car accident and the other was struck by something on the eye while playing with friends.
Upon meeting the patients, Mr Kim was touched when the boys told him they could not see their family, friends and teachers, and that it was hard for them to adjust since they were not born with any eye defects.
Gajog Investments expressed interest to sponsor the boys for eye surgeries and Mr Kim approached Princess Marina Hospital. He was referred to the Ministry of Health where he was furnished with a list of candidates and after negotiations Mr Kablay and Mr Tshobotho were selected for the operation.
The company has been involved in charity donations for as long as it has been in existence. It has partnered with Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and sponsored 22 patients to undergo eye surgeries. Mr Kablay and Mr Tshobotho, he said, were the first patients Gajog Investments had donated to on its own.
He explained that going forward, he planned to continue his charity work and help wherever he could. Gajog Investments has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vision Care, an organisation consisting of doctors, nurses and volunteers who travel across the country and perform eye surgeries to patients who need them.
Together, they plan to perform eye operations on hundreds of patients during the official opening of the University of Botswana Medical Hospital sponsored by Gajog Investments.
Mr Kim, a self-proclaimed Mongwato, emphasised that his love for charity came from his heart, and that he does not want anything in return.
He hopes to extend his deeds to cover more people and return the good he has received from Botswana. He was happy the surgeries went well, and that though he was yet to receive the bill from the hospital, he would gladly settle it because he knows that he has made a difference in the lives of the young boys.
Mr Kim started Gajog Investments from humble beginnings with the creation of Kim’s Auto Electricals in Mogoditshane in 1991.
He offered services such as panel beating. The company grew to encompass many branches throughout Botswana and even then it would sponsor a few sporting codes.
Gajog Investments was created with a mandate to utilise and help transfer Korean skills and technologies to Botswana with the sole purpose to better the lives of citizens. ENDS
