GCC Five-Aside tournament success

Gaborone City Council Mayor’s team won 3-2 after defeating Capital Bank Men’s team in an electrified Five-Aside match recently.

Some 14 teams from both corporate and government ministries took part.

Gaborone City Mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe scored the first goal of the match followed by Nkosiyabo Nkomazana who scored two last goals, while on the other side Diane Lefoane of Capital Bank scored both two last goals of the match.

Five-Aside is a match played in a field of 50m by 50m with only five players in the field, played for 20 minutes unlike a full field soccer play of 100m by 100m and 11 players, for 90 minutes hence the name.

Team Capital bank, made up of energetic and talented players faced the mayor’s team following their continuous win in all their three  matches in the tournament.

Stanbic bank, Letshego and BPC being the only teams who registered both males and females in which Stanbic became team of the moment followed by Letshego and BPC respectively

In an interview, GCC Mayor, Thutlwe mentioned that the tournament was held with the intention to take the council to the people in a socialising and fun filled way.

The mayor added that all funds raised during the event would be donated to a charitable organisation.He said as 90-90-90 ambassador, a UNAIDS programme whose main target was to ensure that by 2020, 90 per cent of all people living with HIV would know their status he encourage Batswana especially men in sport to test during the event.

Botswana Christian Aids Institute Programme and University of Maryland School of Medicine availed themselves to offer HIV testing and counselling.

Thutlwe urged Batswana to live sport adding that sport promoted good health.

Thanking those who participated Mega sport managing director, Seabo Gabanakgosi said because of business community’s turn up the event was a success expressing happiness that the objective of the day was meet.

Letshego beat BPC through penalties while Debswana beat Yarona FM 1-0 in semi-finals and Letshego beat Debswana 3-1 to clinch the title after extra time. ENDS
