21 May 2017

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama led Office of the President employees and the community in planting trees, landscaping, paving and laying curb stones and refurbishing playing equipment as well as installing benches at Gaborone’s Ginger Park on Friday.

The activities marked the Office of the President’s this month’s Community Service Day, which initiative Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale has hailed the President for, saying it has yielded great results.

Addressing participants at the event, Mr Molale said since inception, Community Service Day had touched and improved many lives.

Mr Molale pointed out that the intended purpose of Community Service Day was bearing fruit as it had contributed immensely to individuals and society at large.

He commended all for honouring the President’s call and reaching out to serve the community.

Mr Molale stated that the service to the community was special because it was the public service way of showing love to those they served and an opportunity to interact and see the faces affected by policies and programmes they made.

He urged public servants elsewhere to continue with the initiative, saying such relationships built strong and united communities and nations.

Such relationships, he said, should be nurtured in order to sustain the development of the country.

Regarding the location, Mr Molale said Ginger Park construction started in 2013 with contributions from different organisations and stakeholders and some from the Alcohol levy.

He mentioned that the community of Ginger Park at Extension 26 and Gaborone City Council had forged a powerful relationship to bring the park to life over the years.

That, he said, was an example of development for the urban dweller and an initiative of the people of Gaborone.

Mr Molale said the activity would leave the park in a state ready to be handed over to Extension 26 community, which would in turn benefit from it in many ways including sport development and recreation.

A resident from Ginger, Mr Tebogo Monnaatsie appreciated the refurbishment.

Mr Monnaatsie, a youth, said the park would come in handy, especially to the youth, who would use it as a resting place. ENDS
