De Graaff refutes absenteeism claims

21 May 2017

Member of Parliament for Ghanzi South, Mr Christiaan De Graaff has refuted claims by some of his constituents that he was absent from his constituency.

Instead he blamed those who made assertions that he hardly held kgotla meetings for not attending such meetings.

In the same kgotla meeting addressed by Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Gladys Kokorwe on Thursday, which some members of his constituency used as a platform to express discontents, Mr De Graaff stated that, ‘if you come to kgotla, don’t come to play your little politics, at least respect the kgotla’.

He told the gathering that he held his last kgotla meeting last October and there was poor turnout, adding that even when ministers visited his constituency the attendance mostly disappointed.

He said kgotla meetings were meant for consultation process, as such he called upon his constituents to take them seriously so that they could get first hand information.

Regarding concerns that he did not advocate for developments for his area, he said infrastructure had improved in his constituency and the inhabitants should instead be proud.

He cited Ncojane/Charleshill road as one of the major projects on progress.

“Life has changed for us in Botswana, Ghanzi South and Charleshill,” he emphasised.

Moreover, he said constituents should feel free to go to Parliament to listen to their representatives. ENDS
