Boxers in international challenge
18 May 2017
Eight boxers from Dscud, DTCB and Prison boxing clubs will tomorrow be in action against the Robertsham based Booysen’s boxing club in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Confirming the bouts in an interview earlier this week, the co-founder of the newly established Dscud Boxing Club, Thuso Khubamang said the tournament would give local boxers a chance to pit their strength against well-established South African boxers both at amateur and professional levels.
Booysen’s Boxing Club is renowned for its robust youth development structures and women empowerment in the sport.
Botswana lightweight champion, Keamogetse Kenosi, who is currently in camp for the African Confederation Boxing championship which starts on May 27, was part of the Johannesburg bound team, but her participation was not yet confirmed by Thursday (May 18).
Khubamang, who travels as co-coach together with Thebe Setlalekgosi, explained that only three boxers from the initial squad had been dropped owing to injuries sustained in last week’s inter-club tournament.
The team comprises Kabelo Bagwasi, Kutlwano Ogaketse, Tshepang Babui, Treasure Moremi, Kgakgamatso Nlisi, Mompati Kabanjera, Basha Motlhane, Mmoloki Thipe and Bame Marume.
Meanwhile, the national team has been called into camp and will leave the country next week for Congo for the continental showpiece.
The female elite team comprises Beauty Phori, Letlhabo Modukanele and Kenosi while Mohammed Otukile, George Molwantwa, Tefo Maitewa, Kefentse Molalapata, Kabo Seitshiro, Boifang Kenaope, Mmusi Tswiige and Zibani Chikanda make the male elite team.
The team leaves tomorrow (May 19) and expected back home on May 21. ENDS
