Flight of Hope Mascom donate to children

20 Jun 2013

Flight of Hope group from Portugal in partnership with Mascom have put a smile on the faces of children in the Wilderness Camp by donating P10 000, soccer balls and school stationery.

Flight of Hope is a group of airline pilots and volunteers from Portugal whose main objective was to contribute to good education and health of children in Africa. Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr Pedro Venancio explained that the group had made donations across Africa since 2007 in support of vulnerable and disadvantaged society in rural areas.

“It is our aim to distribute stationery and sports equipment to children in areas where they have no access to services and where humanitarian support is scarce," said. He said they had realised that the needs of the people in such areas were countless due to limited resources hence opting to address some of the children’s needs to better their education.

Mr Venancio was hopeful that the donations would make a huge impact in the lives of the children by minimising the difficulties they faced. He however cautioned children to take their education seriously to ensure a successful life journey.

He observed that sports and education were keys to a bright future as they could mould children and make them into responsible citizens. He said it was their intention to develop the children to become international players.

Mascom communications manager, Ms Barbara Tshipana said the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility initiative, which allowed the company to contribute to the socio-economic challenges faced by various groups in a coordinated and structured manner.

Ms Tshipana praised Wilderness Camp for the good work, saying it required patience, dedication, selflessness and compassion. She also thanked them for affording Mascom and Flight of Hope family an opportunity to respond to the specific needs of the communities.

She said they worked together with Flight of Hope to uplift the lives of the needy society and hoped that the donations would be used to benefit the children and make a positive impact on their lives.

Kgosi Merafhe Amos thanked Mascom and the Portuguese for choosing Khwai noting that the communities were poverty stricken and they could not afford to provide all the necessities to their children. He assured them that the donation would be put to good use and encouraged donors to continue with the good spirit. ENDS
