Gunners extend unbeaten run

16 May 2017

Extension Gunners on Sunday came from behind to beat hard fighting Security Systems FC 2-1 during a competitive BTC premiership match played at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

Systems were the first to score in the opening minutes through Thapelo Senoya and doggedly held on  fast to the lead the whole first half. Like amateurs they are not, Gunners had somewhat lost guard when a ball hit defender Desire

Bafana on the hand, seemingly expecting the referee to blow the whistle but Systems took advantage of the confusion and scored.

Buoyed by the surprise lead, Systems pushed Gunners against the wall through Tumelo ‘Di Maria’ Mazebedi, Mgcini Sibanda, Thulani Gumede and Senoya and never gave them a chance in the first half.

Systems capitalised on the vacuum that was created by the absence of Gunners midfielder Ofentse Mmipi who watched from the stands, injured.

As a result marksman Kenanao Flo Kgetholetsile was most of the time isolated and wasted.

However, coach Tumie Duicker’s decisive introduction of Kudzanai Machazani in the second half stablilised Gunners in the midfield and enabled them to play as a unit.

And many a Gunners’ supporter had waited for the day to see Machazani, a talented midfielder by any standard, play his debut.

The turning point, however was when Gunners loyal servant and right back Finkie Mothibi like a Messiah stepped up at the hour of desperate need, sliced through the opponents wall right up to the final third and scored a crucial goal for his team.

Mothibi had received  a pass from Thabo Metlhayotlhe, who was like a thorn in the flesh for the Systems midfield.

A few minutes later, Ontlaantshekela Mooketsi put the final nail on Systems’ coffin with a long range shot from a set piece and subsequently put the game out of reach for the latter.

Meanwhile Systems coach Thaloba Nthaga who was seemingly displeased with the way the referee had handled the affair, declined to have an interview after the game.

Duicker on the other hand was happy for the result but conceded that Systems were too strong for him in the first half because the team was a closed book to him. ENDS
