Nico halts Rollers championship ambitions
16 May 2017
Desperate Nico United from Selebi Phikwe held up premier league giants Rollers to 0-0 draw during a BTC Premiership encounter on May 13 at the Selebi Phikwe stadium.
The outcome of the game leaves Majombolo still cliff hanging on position 14 with 26 points which serves as a motivation for the Selebi Phikwe based outfit to strive to win the upcoming last three games to move away from the relegation zone.
On the other hand Township Rollers now with 57 points has moved up the ladder of the log from position two after Galaxy FC also with 57 points to position one due to goal differences.
In an interview after the game Rollers coach Teenage Mpote said Nico United gave them a tough game.
He said he expected such an encounter because usually teams in the relegation areas fight hard to maintain their stand.
Nico United were more on a defending tip and most of the time played around on their other half of the pitch looking for an opportunity to break through, counter attack and score a goal then tighten their defence again.
Mpote said they wanted to play an attacking game but had to be careful to avoid making any mistakes.
He said Nico’s play strategy made it difficult for his boys to penetrate and score goals.
Currently Rollers perched on top of the league has three games at hand against Greenlovers, Black Forest and Galaxy FC.
According to coach Mpote, their ambition is to take each team differently and as they come and strive to win all the games and win the top league.
Meanwhile Nico’s coach Peter Muchina said that they were not yet out of the woods and they intend fighting hard all the way to survive relegation from the elite league.
Currently on the 14th spot, with three games left against Gilport Lions, Sankoyo Bushbucks and Mahalapye Hotspurs, Nico still has chance to move away from the red zone provided they win all the games.
Coach Muchina said the most important game left was the away from home one against Gilport Lions on Wednesday and they need to win it.
He said games against Sankoyo and Hotpsurs will be on home ground which gave them the advantage to win.
“We call on all Nico supporters and residents of Selebi Phikwe to give us support all the way so that we win all our games and have a chance to stay in the elite league,” he said. ENDS
