The fourth edition of Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) interclub tournament produced an exciting light weight bout between Kefentse Molalapata of University of Botswana (UB) and DTCB’s Kutlwano Ogaketse that should never be forgotten.
The fight caught life from the first whistle until the final round when the ring announcer declared the bout a stalemate.
Both boxers went toe to toe producing a fight resembling a national championship final.
The 19-year-old Africa Youth Games bronze medalist, Ogaketse started the high octane action with decent shots and neat footwork.
Molalapata’s energy was clearly drained in the second round and at one point managed to survive the standing eight count after Ogaketse caught him with a powerful hook.
Ogaketse looked impressive in combinations but Molalapata drew strength from defensive tactics, sometimes leaning and holding his opponent.
The crowd rose towards the end of the third round, sensing the end but the judge’s decision disappointed.
The fly weight division also drew much attention with at least four technical knockouts recorded.
Visiting youngster, Ezekiel Tiro of Jwaneng succumbed to DTCB’s Treasure Moremi as early as the second round.
Another travelling boxer, Maatla Motlhatlhedi from Francistown was outclassed by UB/Tsholofelo’s Romeo Nkisa.
In the ladies’ bouts, under 52kg Ghanzi’s Gorata Morwe inched past Kelebogile Thatayamodimo while UB’s stocky boxer, Beauty Phori continued with her dominance taking maximum points for all the three rounds against Selibe Phikwe's Gosaitse Nkepe.
In the feather weight division, Lobatse based George Molwantwa breathed a sigh of relief after being crowned winner through the a split decision of 2-1.
He beat Thebephatshwa’s Tefo Maitewa in an interesting affair with both boxers displaying composure and endurance from the first round.
Still in the 56kg, Tlotlo Ochipile was unlucky in the first round as the referee stopped the contest due to a cut above his right eye automatically declaring his foe Nonofo Kitlanang the winner.
In the middle weight division a split decision crowned EMG’s Zibani Chikanda the winner against Lentswe Zwinila of Glenvalley. Still in the same division, Monthusi Moitoi of UB beat Brian Ncube 3-0. ENDS
