14 May 2017

Ezekiel Lekone, a Form One student at Nanogang Junior Secondary School will leave for India on May 15 where he will undergo a kidney transplant.
The 14-year-old Lekone will be accompanied by his sister, Keamogetse Lekone who has agreed to donate a kidney to her brother.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony on Friday, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Basic Education, Mr Simon Coles said Ezekiel’s trip and surgery was collaboration between his ministry and health and wellness ministry, in conjunction with Moabi Trust Fund.
He said his ministry developed a relationship with Moabi Trust Fund over the years, through compassion and caring.

He said kidney and heart transplants had become common general operations, and no longer described as complicated.
Basic Education ministry director, Mr Ndondo Koolose said initially, Ezekiel was supposed to leave for India last year, but due to some technical problems, the trip did not materialise.
He said they were happy that this time around it happened.
He said nowadays, kidney transplant was no longer a scary surgery, as a lot of people had survived and continued to live a healthy life.

“There are a lot of people who are also living with a single kidney, and to be honest, the kidney transplant surgery is now simple to conduct, we have never heard that the surgery had failed,” he said.
Moabi Trust Fund secretary, Ms Gabo Thothobolo said in 2014, they managed to assist a colleague, Mr Pedro Moabi, who went for treatment in China. She added that this year, they found it imperative to assist one of their students.
She said Moabi Trust Fund was happy that Ministry of Health and Wellness had decided to take him to India for the kidney transplant, and the Trust Fund together with Ministry of Basic Education gave Ezekiel P10 000.
The money, she said was meant to assist Ezekiel and Keamogetse during their stay in India.
Ezekiel’s grandmother, Ms Beauty Lekone said she was happy that both ministries and Moabi Trust Fund found it fit to help her grandson. ENDS
