Student nurses donate waste cage coughing spot
10 May 2017
Student nurses who were attached at Sese clinic have donated a waste disposal cage and a coughing spot to the village.
The students’ representative, Mr Emmanuel Chakalisa highlighted that their two months stay at Sese was an eye opener and they decided to leave something which they would be remembered with.
Mr Chakalisa said they moved around the village to establish challenges that residents faced and they realised that there was an issue of unsafe disposal of clinical waste and the high spread of Tuberculosis.
“We sourced help from the community and companies operating in Sese and the response was positive. There were individuals who pledged their labour and others brought building materials for the construction of the two structures,” he explained.
He further revealed that, through the coughing spot they will manage to eliminate the spread of TB which has been a concern in the village.
Mr Chakalisa mentioned that there was a need for communities to join hands and do sustainable projects that will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of the coming generations.
Chief registered nurse, Ms Veronica Moamogwe also highlighted the waste disposal cage came handy as clinical waste previously exposed residents especially patients to different infections due to dirt.
She said Sese recorded 41 cases of TB patients in 2016 and that alone called for a coughing spot to collect specimen for further tests.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Justice Motlhalane applauded the eight student nurses for the gesture and their peaceful stay at Sese.
He said they had already portrayed good behaviour befitting civil service.
Kgosi Motlhalane appreciated them for serving in his community for the past two months and further leaving behind two good and useful projects.
The eight students from Kanye Seventh Day Adventist School of Nursing will be returning to school to graduate. ENDS
