Horse racing to spice up agric show
09 May 2017
Horse racing is one of the sporting activities that are growing at a high rate across the country and its spectatorship is also on the rise.
Motokwe in the Letlhakeng Sub-district has also joined the fray and is currently home to the most anticipated horse racing event in the area, which normally attracts multitudes from all corners of the country.
This has led organisers to include the event in the first ever agricultural show for the village that is slated for June 20.
In an interview, chairperson of the sub-committee, Cosmos Tshotlane said the event was expected to be a thriller as it would comprise short and long distance categories of different breeds as well as donkey racing, which was not common in the country.
Tshotlane said the four-day festivities would also include livestock auction, beauty contest and soccer games and that the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Mr Patrick Ralotsia is expected to perform the official opening.
He said they expect small businesses to benefit immensely from the event.
He said the event would be sponsored by the business community and farmers in the village.
Tshotlane applauded residents for their support and said they plan to have the event on an annual basis and are still awaiting the landboard to allocate a space for them where all activities will take place. ENDS
