07 May 2017
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama visited Hukuntsi residents on May 4 and held a kgotla meeting to hear their grievances.
President Khama was accompanied by Cabinet ministers and other top civil servants who assisted in answering and addressing grievances from residents.
He donated a camp chair to Kgosi Merapelo Tshweneyagae, 30 garden chairs to the kgotla, 50 blankets for adults and the less privileged, Bibles for different denominations and a football kit and some balls.
President Khama also promised to donate 10 goats to a resident who had earlier on lamented that her goats were stolen.
Welcoming President Khama, Kgosi Tshweneyagae said that although they were happy with Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) projects in their village, there were facilities which needed attention such as their clinic, roads with pot holes and lack of water.
He further said they were also in need of a road that connects them with Tsabong where they get most of their services.
Kgosi Tshweneyagae added that they were also requesting for the airstrip to be taken out of the village to avoid accidents, adding that they needed street lights to reduce crime which was spreading in their village.
For his part, umbrella VDC chairperson, Mr Mokwadi Mokope pleaded with President Khama to ensure that their livestock was provided with water.
Mr Mokope said Tshane prison had Phase 1 and 2 on its plans, but that only the first phase was done.
He also pointed out that livestock theft was rife in their village, adding that ever since government introduced the ear tag system instead of the bolus, the situation had spiraled out of control.
Furthermore, he pointed out that civil servants had a shortage of accommodation even though they had been promised houses at Lehutshelo and Lehututu community junior schools.
Residents were promised that their grievances would be attended to in due course by relevant authorities.
President Khama also met with civil servants and were given an opportunity to voice their concerns.
Concerns included lack of banking facilities, over staying of some workers and lack of accommodation.
President Khama said government would do all it could to attend to issues, pointing out that a task force was already working to see that civil servants who had stayed for a long time without being transferred, be moved to other stations. ENDS
