Employees remain most important asset

27 Apr 2017

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Col Duke Masilo has said employees remained the most important asset in organisations and must be nurtured in all possible ways.
Col Masilo was giving a keynote address during Moshupa Sub-district council employee performance awards ceremony held at Moshupa on Wednesday.
The theme of the ceremony was ‘Raising the performance bar.’
He reiterated that recognising and rewarding employees was the biggest investment in any organisation and could make a much needed significant leap to profitability and improved service delivery.

“It is my deepest belief that employees should be recognised for high performance which is evident in attainment of results, performance improvement, upholding organisational values, creativity and innovation,’’ he said.
Col Masilo said recognition was of vital importance in creating a conducive working environment where there was mutual respect and tolerance by all team members.
He said two way communication between leaders and their teams reigned as a gateway to ‘excellent’ service delivery.
He thanked Moshupa Sub-council chairperson and his councillors for taking the lead in creating this positive working environment.

He encouraged regular staff meetings where all aired their concerns and suggest better ways to work jointly together and resolved staff issues.
He indicated that employees’ performance had a positive bearing on the development of the sub-district as well as Southern District Council and country wide.
He stated that Moshupa Sub-council had been known for its excellence in service delivery and urged them to strive to perform better than before.

“We all appreciate employees who have performed exceptionally well in driving the council’s performance agenda with the intention to increase both individual and team morale,’’ he added.
Concerning sub-council's achievements realised during the last financial year , he said the construction of 18 destitute houses in various villages was completed successfully within three months.

Col Masilo mentioned that the sub-council had just completed a waste water recycling plant, saying the main objective of this project was water conservation and the recycled water would be used in ablutions as well as for irrigation purposes.
He said currently ESP project to build customary court facilities at Sesung village was at 80 per cent with painting works ongoing, adding that the project was delayed by the recent heavy rains experienced during the months of January and February.
He said maintenance of primary school was one of their first priority areas but due to budgetary constraints they were not able to maintain as many schools as necessary. He further noted that the district had serious water shortage and that rendered the water borne toilets in primary schools unusable.

Col Masilo stated that the sub-district was able to do other works using Ipelegeng programme for financial year 2016/17. This includes construction of Ntlhantlhe service centre which is 98 per cent complete.
He said kgotla offices at Seherelela were completed and a service centre at Manyana was at ring beam level . ENDS
