Grassroots development reaches Bobonong

Selebi Phikwe Regional Football Association has embarked on a campaign to recruit more young people into football.
Selebi Phikwe Regional Football Association chairperson, Barulaganye Moloi said in an interview that they were targeting young boys and girls under the ages of 13, 15 and 17.
He explained that the campaign which took place in Bobonong on Saturday was efforts by Botswana Football Association to develop football at grassroots level. Moloi stressed that players who will be selected in Bobonong will be amalgamated with those in Selebi Phikwe to form a team that will participate in an inter regional football tournament competition to be held at Mahalapye in April.
“Mahalapye football tournament will be contested by four regions of Selebi Phikwe, Tswapong, Central, North and South,” he said
He said from the Mahalapye competition, another selection of players will be made to form a team that will compete with other regions in a tournament in Gaborone .
Moloi said players who will be chosen at the tournament will be the ones to form under 13,15 and 17 national team to represent the country in international competitions.
Further, he said Selebi Phikwe Regional Football Association intended to form centres in Bobirwa villages.
He added that centre would be followed by the youth league and soccer festivals.
“Plans are underway to train coaches who will be tasked with the youth league but as for now we have trained one female coach who is responsible for the grassroots development,” he said.
He said BFA was going around the country giving development teams kits, balls and all other necessary equipment. ENDS
