Inter oil soccer tournament a success

25 Apr 2017

The just ended Inter Oil Soccer Tournament which was played by eight teams from different companies has been described as a success.
This year there were eight teams as opposed to four teams last year during the inaugural tournament, which was also played at the Bank of Botswana Sports Complex in Block 5.

Meanwhile, Vivo Energy Botswana scooped first position for the second time and won a floating trophy and gold medals while position two went to Puma Energy. The won silver medals while Champs Botswana obtained third position and got bronze medals.
The chairperson of the tournament, who is also Tshole Trust executive coordinator, Stephen Mopalo said the games have managed to cement friendships among the different oil companies and  sensitise people about the dangers of used oil. The theme of the tournament was: No oil to the ground.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Mopalo told attendants that “this is a very special tournament that has long been on the Oil family agenda, but due to some technical and administrative issues, it was unable to kick start.”
He said Tshole Trust, as the coordinating entity on used oil management in Botswana, was inspired by the desire and mushrooming of football teams across the oil sector divide. He said the teams requested for a football tournament that could bring the oil family together.

And based on the premise that football brings many people together, Tshole Trust saw the tournament as a window of opportunity to sensitise members, create a platform for interactions among the oil family members, share information on common used oil management challenges, and as a lens through which Tshole Trust could raise funds required for financing of many of its projects.
Other participating teams included Unitrans, Ground Energy, Total, Barloworld and Impression. ENDS
